A coastal New England version of the greenhouse village or earthship concept, this was created in the 1970s and still exists today. The New Alchemy Institute was active in the 1970s and had far reaching plans for a more sustainable society. This Bioshelter Ark is the last remaining example of their work. It is still active and the closed-loop systems are still operational.
